My Perspective

An Obligation to Improve the Health and Safety of our Community

  • A Healthier Community -I  believe Hospital Board Members must assure the tax-supported hospital is seeking, supporting and advocating for ways to improve the health of all members of the community, particularly our most vulnerable.
  • Preventative Care – Hospital leaders should collaborate with local agencies in designing and promoting community health programs in preventive care, health screenings, and education aimed at improving overall health of the community.

Universal and Timely Access to High Quality Care

  • Growth of Services –  I support Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s expansion of services to meet the needs of our growing population. Assuring there are sufficient primary care and specialty providers to meet this growing population should be a top hospital priority.
  • Tracking Delays in Care – Delays in access to care (long waits for appointments) can have a deleterious and sometimes deadly impact on people needing care. A health system should be tracking , reporting and improving waiting times access for primary care, specialty care and critical diagnostic services.
  • Medicaid Expansion – Dale supports the expansion of Medicaid in Florida, an opportunity offered by the Accountable Care Act which could benefit approximately 570,000 Floridians and provide SMH additional revenues for offsetting uncompensated care.

Cost of Care

  • Prescription Drugs – I know how the cost of medical care can be prohibitive for some and often leads to a severe financial crisis for families. He supports the Federal Government using their purchasing power to negotiate drug prices on behalf of their Medicare members.

Patient Rights

  • I understands the fundamental right of patients to make final decisions that impact their personal lives and those of their families. Additionally, he understands that hospital medical staff credentialling process is critical for assuring treatment offerings are based on the best science and medical community experience that is available
